“Cities are alive beings, organisms that integrate multiple expressions, playgrounds and sources of inspiration: the citizens, the geography of the city, field recording sounds…”
The City Composing is an initiative seeking for the citizen participation and engagement in musical creation. During one month blank music notebooks and color pencils are placed in different public spaces of the city: libraries, cafes, museums, schools, train stations and any imaginable place. Everybody is invited to contribute by writing down a poem, a song, a drawing, music notes and any imaginable idea. After, the material is collected and arranged in order present a public concert where an ensemble of professional musicians perform these citizen’s scores. The participants are invited to the concert to listen to the interpretation of their scores.
This project started in 2014 in Tallinn and it has been accomplished in Stockholm, Lyon, Hamburg, Brussels, Gothenburg, Kaunas (Lithuania) and Barcelona by the pianist and composer Hara Alonso.
